The saxophonist Matana Roberts and cultural producer*, DJ, author and artist* Sinethemba Twalo will have a performative conversation at OOR Saloon, which will put their sonic, artistic and political practices in relation.
In her ongoing album series COIN-COIN, Matana Roberts interweaves conceptual approaches from art and theatre and, through biographical examination and research with seven generations of her own family (which leads into French-speaking Louisiana in the 19th century), creates a personal, decolonial, spiritual-feminist aesthetic of African American historiography.
Sinethemba Twalo is interested in the performativity of language, noise, affect and chronopolitics and interweaves in her* performative DJ and writing practice and ongoing research into sonical cultures interview fragments, archive recordings and fictional narratives.
